Summary: | With the proliferation of touch-enabled devices in the form of mobile devices, like smart phones and tablets, and personal computers, there is increasingly more research in touch screen technology. One area of research is to find a low-cost yet scalable
solution for use in digital signage to provide interactivity to consumers. In this project, two different touch screen technology will be explored to create a multi-touch enabled surface. The first part of the project will deal with the use of Laser Light Plane (LLP). A custom blob tracking software was built in order to gain a
better understanding of how image processing is used in this technology. In the second part of the project, a different technology involving the use of camera triangulation is employed in order to reduce the size of the previous setup. In typical
optical based touch screen setups, the large physical footprint is attributed to the projector’s minimum throw distance as well as the camera’s field of vision. The use of camera triangulation has allowed the reduction of the perpendicular distance between
the projector/camera and the touch surface to just a few centimeters above the surface. A simple painting application is also built to showcase the potential of employing this technology in classroom settings. |
