As the motion picture industry in the United States continues to grow, the importance of the industry cannot be undermined. To sustain this growth, there is a need to ensure that there is an ever growing supply of investment to drive innovations and creative works in the motion picture industry. However, the policy makers and as well as the mass public, and even between current and future copyright holders. Hence, this brings us to investigate the effect of copyright extension act on the incentive for producers to invest, with the main purpose to check if the implementation of the copyright act actually brings about greater incentive to invest. Our study is unlike many other papers which examine the impact of the copyright extension act on the supply and sales of motion pictures and even welfare analysis. Nonetheless, we find that analysing from the perspective of producers' incentive to invest is equally important. From our analysis, we found that the Sonny Bono Copyright Law Extension Act has no discernable impact on the incentive to invest by motion pictures producers. The ineffectiveness of the copyright extension act is also expressed in some papers that analyse the ability of copyright extension act in stimulating more supply of motion pictures. Therefore, it seems that the Sonny Bono Copyright Extension Act is weak indeed.
