We rely on these little devices to perform a myriad of activities, and the devices themselves have kept up with our demands with better specifications / features and innovative functionalities. Technologies like Near Field Communication (NFC), Location-Based Awareness (through GPS), and Bluetooth Communications open up many possibilities for us to interact with the world. With the prevalence of our mobile lifestyle, the privacy and the security of the information we handle while on the go is constantly under threat. Beyond pushing new and innovative features, there is an increasing need to address the security issues that being mobile brings. This project serves as an exploration into the balance of innovation and security in the development of a Health Management System (HMS) for the Android Platform by way of a patient-centric system that is designed for security. The results of this exploration indicate that although it is possible to design a system resistant to threats, doing so often comes at a cost of convenience and features.
