Managing energy usage and cutting wastage will bring a lot of benefits not only to individual home user but also to our environment. This paper presents a real-time energy monitoring system which displays energy data with a user-friendly chart on a web page. Information technology plays a critical role to develop a web system of which users can easily access information instantly over the internet. In development of energy measuring hardware, there are various methods available to analyze energy consumption of an entire household. In this paper, author selected an Arduino microcontroller and its platform for data processing and, developed a web-system which is programmed in HTML (Hyper Text Markup Language), PHP server-side scripting language and MySQL database. This paper yields a structured overview of energy monitoring system and detailed analysis of both hardware and software development processes. The end result is displayed as a live-chart on a web page for users to observe the trend in residential energy consumption in the entire household.
