Description
Summary:This report presents a case study of an underground crude oil storage in west side of Singapore, Jurong. The aim of this study is to identify the main rock parameters that determine the cavern dimensions and carry out sensitivity study on how the rock parameters affect the cavern dimensions using the DDA program. The storage site is researched with detailed field and laboratory investigations. The layout, cross section, elevation and shape of the rock cavern are analysed and designed based on geological and geotechnical information gathered during investigations. In this particular study, the Discontinuous Deformation Analysis (DDA) program is used for all the analysis to assist us in achieving the aim. The entire analysis will be based on various varying parameters such as friction angle, rock modulus and in-situ stress, to simulate the actual underground rock cavern. Excavation of the cavern will also take place and simulated as part of the analysis. Displacement and stress values of different sub-blocks in different directions obtained numerically will then be compared and discussed on. Therefore from the study, the main rock parameters that influence the cavern dimensions will be identified.
