Description
Summary:In recent years, Lattice Boltzmann Method (LBM) is a novel approach in dealing fluid dynamic problems and is undergoing much development even up to date. This is especially towards the compressible flow due to its complexity. This report will introduce a combined method if LBM and finite volume method (FVM) another alternative for solving compressible flow. Firstly, LBM is used to compute for the flux solver at the interface of Riemann problem which is similar to the Godunov Method. Subsequently, it is used to solve Navier-Stoke/Euler equations by FVM. D1Q5 Lattice Boltzmann model is used to illustrate this FV-LBM scheme. Sod shock tube problem is applied and results had proved the effectiveness of the is method. In 2D application, the results from the graph of macroscopic quantities had shown that it is also able to capture the shockwave accurately as compared the Roe scheme. Similarly, when applied to 3-D situation, the results had also shown that shockwave is almost similar to the experimental results, thus validating this method to be feasible. Hence, from the numerical results from 3 different dimensional simulations, it can conclude that this method is superior as compared to the Godunov method and Roe scheme.
