Development of interactive software (normal stress in beams)

Structures from early civilizations are proof that beam analysis is important. For instance, the pyramids constructed by the Egyptians (made 2000 BC) still stands today as the verification to the competence of the master manufacturer of the civilization. For instance, the pyramids constructed by the Egyptians (made 2000 BC) still stands today as the verification to the competence of the master manufacturer of the civilization. Further testament can be seen from world renowned buildings like Parthenon (Athens, 2500 years old), the great Stupa (Sanchi, 2000 years old), TajMahal (India, 350 years old) and others. A structural element that has the capability to traverse primary load by opposing bending is known as a beam. When resulted to external loads, materials’ weight, length and external reactions will lead to bending moments being formed. Usually, beams are described of building or civil engineering structural elements. However, lesser structures like transportation frames, apparatus frames and other mechanical and structural systems contain beam structures that are constructed and evaluated in the same way. In the second year of our course, we are introduced to a module Mechanics of Materials where its main purpose is to expose engineers to be the importance of structural analysis. However, a majority of students still find it difficult to grasp the fundamental concept of which the module is encompassing. Simply supported, overhanging and cantilever are the basics of what they need to know before they go on to more complicated beam structures. A firm foundation is needed. As of the world today, technology plays an important role in education. Hence, a software program is needed to aid the students instead of the traditionally pen and paper regime.
