Summary: | Oxygen transfer has been investigated extensively to date. The characteristics of reaeration under small surface perturbation are not known fully. Using a specially designed test-rig, a comprehensive set of experimental data was obtained, upon which the author developed a mathematical model that could be used to estimate the rate of oxygen transfer under low turbulence conditions. A diffusive film layer was introduced and adopted as a characteristic length scale for the reaeration process. The modified surface renewal model developed was used successfully to unify the results of the present study and those reported in the literature. Finally, a water quality (DO) model was also developed and successfully applied to simulate the reaeration process in Kranji Reservoir (Singapore). The proposed model had been shown to simulate DO at different water depths with good accuracy and with the confidence level of better than 95%. |
