Description
Summary:Nowadays, with the increasing development of a stand-alone photovoltaic system, the battery is popularly used as energy storage. Whereas, the dynamic external environmental factors lead to the solar arrays with non-linear output characteristics, which seriously affect the lifespan of the batteries. In this dissertation, a basic stand-alone PV system with battery is built in Matlab/Simulink. The objective of this report is to develop a control method in which consists of constant current charge controller and constant voltage charge controller to effectively minimize the charging time combined with the maximum power output of solar arrays. Hence, maximum power point tracking method (MPPT, for short) is applied in this system with PWM control. Also, boost circuit is designed as the main circuit in this system. Conclusively, the simulation results prove the disturbance observation method and the incremental conductance method both meet the needs of use in the stand alone system, in which a boost converter is applied in the maximum power point tracking circuit. Also, another boost converter is designed in the battery charge controller as the main circuit. The three-stage charging method is designed as the effective charge method and simulations are conducted with detailed simulation diagrams.
