It has also gained significant attention over the recent years with low-cost and low-power wireless standards like Zigbee. In this project, we develop a Student Tracking System in the form of an android application, as a solution for tracking the movements of students and estimating the user's own position in the indoor environments. The objective of the application is to track students with respect to the location of the teacher holding the Personal Digital Assistant (PDA). In the system, the location of the students is tracked USIng Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) tags. These tags communicate with the RFID readers/routers through the SimpliciTI protocol. Each router collects the information from all the tags, attaches its own information, packages the entire data and sends it to the USB dongle TI CC2531 which is connected to a PDA device which then uses the received data to locate the tags using a specific algorithm. Since the device is a PDA, it can also be on a move. In order to track the tags efficiently, we need to know the location of the Personal Digital Assistant as well. This self-localisation is done via Wireless LAN using the k-Nearest Neighbours (KNN) algorithm. The locations of the tags and PDA are plotted on a map which shows the location of the tags with respect to the PDA. Indoor positioning has been researched and developed significantly in the past few years because the applications used for tracking person or object in the indoor environment are increasing in importance and purposes.
