The MediNet system is used to illustrate how many critical processes be redesigned through the enabling use of Information Technology. The focus of our study is the Central Claims Processing System which is an electronic data interchange application. In our literature review, we have attempted to see how electronic data interchange can be used as an effective tool in the redesigning of processes. Business Process Re-engineering (BPR) plays an increasingly important role in IT today. In fact, it has been ranked as a top priority for Information System executives in a survey conducted in 1993. Thus, we are motivated to study how BPR changes the way the organisations work. The MediNet system was chosen as the basis of the study because it has played a significant role in the medical industry by increasing the effectiveness and efficiency of the processing of claims and the transmitting of information.
