Description
Summary:The objective of our studies is to highlight the possible factors and reasons for juvenile violence and to suggest recommendations to help control or minimise such delinquencies. We are motivated by the social concern and the urgent need to curb the rising trend of violence by juveniles. Our studies were conducted through interviews with a social worker, staff of the Boys' and Girls' Homes, the young offentlers in both Homes, and a survey on sixty other young ladies and gentlemen between the ages of twelve and sixteen. Literature and articles on topics dealing with juvenile violence were also reviewed. Through our observation and analysis of our interviews and literature reviews, our group came to a conclusion that no one single factor is adequate in explaining delinquency. Our recommendations which range from imposing a stiffer punishment to sending staff from all the Homes for counselling courses, stem from the fact that we need to look towards the long term rather than to expect immediate improvement of the situation.
