In order to assist designers in meeting this challenge in product development, conceptual design in particular, this work attempts to establish an intelligent hybrid approach to design analysis and design synthesis. The work proposes a new conceptual design paradigm known as design concept-capability mapping where past design data are used for the extraction of design rules.
