Management control systems are one of the most critical factors for an organization's success and survival. With the increasing number of organizations developing into multinational corporations (MNCs), these systems become even more critical. This research attempts to study the importance of management controls to an organization and understand the various control systems that are adopted by service MNCs in Singapore. An extensive review is first carried out. This is followed by a case study on the collapse of Barings. In the last part of the research, we conducted four interviews with Regional General Managers of MNCs where the regional headquarters are based in Singapore. This gave us invaluable insights on controls used in practice.
