sg-ntu-dr.10356-577162023-05-19T05:44:58Z Managerial roles and budgetary behaviour : effects on performance Kiang Ai Lin Angeline, Lee Kia Miang Catherine, Tan Yan Ping Alfred E Seaman Nanyang Business School DRNTU::Business 93 p. The research is an attempt to understand the relationships among budget-related behaviours and managerial roles, and the impact they have upon performance. It is part of a larger comparative study on the relationship between the budget behaviour of departmental managers and the attainment of departmental performance goals. Literature suggests that these two concepts are related. A specific objective of this research is to gain greater insight into the association between managerial roles and budget-related behaviours, and to establish the degree of similarities and differences of managerial roles and budget-related behaviours exhibited by managers in high-performing and low-performing organisations. The study surveyed 288 managers from 84 organisations and the results indicate that there are 2 distinct gestalts of managerial roles and budget-related behaviours and it proposes a profile of a high-performing manager. This study is unique and novel as it is pioneer research in the area of budget-related behaviour and managerial roles in Singapore. Thus, our findings can be used in inter-country comparisons and will prove invaluable to any organisation.
