The seeds of internal auditing were planted for many decades; some form of internal auditing has existed since the early twentieth century. The focus of internal auditing has changed, over the past few decades, from lower-level compliance auditing to an operational type of review known as operational auditing. Lately, internal auditing is put in the limelight with the evolution of the partnership concept of internal auditing. In view of these developments, this research was undertaken to obtain an understanding of the role of internal auditing in Singapore and more importantly, to solicit local internal auditors' and financial controllers' opinions on the partnership concept.
