This dissertation has been written for the author's applied research project entitled "Trends in the Global Distribution of Income, 1960 - I990" The objective of this project is to examine the question of international income convergence has taken place, that is, whether the poor countries have been catching up with the rich ones. The data used come from the Perm World Tables, version 5.6. The actual sample consists of 137 countries and territories. We make use of four inequality measures to analyze trends in international income distribution and the income inequality among the developing countries. The indices are the Gini coefficient, the coefficient of variation, the Theil index and the Atkinson index. In both cases, all four indices show no evidence to support the convergence hypothesis - the standards of living measured by per capita income of the poor countries converge towards those of the rich over time.
