Fossil energy sources, being a non-renewable resource, have been declining while the requirements of its usage have been growing. The increasing concern of the environment, especially the green house effect, has motivated the human being seeking the use of renewable energy resources and reduced the dependency on the traditional fossil fuel. Singapore, a ideal area to implement solar energy because of its geographic location as there would be a significant amount of solar sunlight available throughout the year. The report provides the details the design and development of grid-connected solar energy system. Literature reviews of Photovoltaic applications and its related theory will be presented in this report. There would also be the discussion on the implementation, testing and analysis of the work accomplished. The research and implementation of DC-DC converter and DC-AC inverter is the focus of this report. Details of some of the testing procedures and results for the design systems implementation would also provided in the report for discussion. At last, recommendation for the improvement of the system design would be provided after the conclusion. This project has been an enriching and great learning experience for me. It provides me the opportunity to apply the theoretical knowledge I obtained in Nanyang Technological University and also acquired new knowledge.
