Oil spill on water or on land is a major concern in many industrialized countries. One of the most economical and efficient means for removal of the spilled oil from either land or sea is to use absorbents. Agricultural products have potential to be substitutes of commercial synthetic absorbents in oil removal and recovery. One of these agro-products which has excellent oil sorption capacity is kapok (Ceibapentandra), a cellulosic silky-cotton fiber material.
