This portable palm sized device is capable of high performance computing capability and connectivity. Good computing power, memory capabilities and basic features seen in satellites such as camera, GPS navigation and Wi-Fi accessibility are also available on Smartphone. Thus, it is a very suitable hardware for satellite missions as Smartphone matches the requirements of satellite missions. In addition, it also has attractive features like lightweight, smaller size. This makes satellite missions more cost effective and more technologically advanced. Imagine a scenario” The battery of the power subsystem in the satellite is running low and there is no one at the ground station to switch it off. This might have detrimental effects on the satellite if the battery falls below the critical range” This project is about solving scenarios such as the above, remote controlling and monitoring different subsystems of a satellite, accessing important satellite data not only from the ground station but from anywhere and anytime. This project is based on developing an Android Application, which utilizes the hardware of Samsung Tablet 3 to accomplish the project. The Android Operating System (OS) is used for this purpose as it is open-source and its documentation is clear, concise and easily available on the Internet.
