They contain powerful sensing capabilities which could be harnessed to make mobile applications that improve people’s lives. In this project, a navigation mobile application based on the Android operating system was created. It uses the Global Positioning System (GPS) capability in smartphones to detect the position of the user in order to carry out accurate navigation and route planning. In addition, it was specially programmed to cater to children with mild intellectual disabilities. There is currently no such application that exist which caters to these group of people. In the mobile application, additional features such as big visible arrows and clear auditory sound were included so as to allow these people to navigate safely and accurately. In this report, an in-depth detail of this navigation application would be described. Also, the details of the visit to the Metta School to present this project idea to their principal would also be described, as well as the subsequent visit for testing.
