Summary: | Various curves and their representations are the foundations of computer graphics today. Its applications range from computer graphics, computer vision, geometric modelling, computer-aided design, robotics, and other many other fields. These applications are bound to increase. Students pursuing a bachelor or master degree in computer science are expected to understand the underlying technical concepts behind computer graphics. However, it is often challenging for the student to grasp the mathematical concepts.
The web-based application “Curve Representations” is developed as a teaching aid. It aims to provide demonstrations of the important curves in computer graphics. Each page is embedded with a Java applet illustrating one of the curves. Every curve that is illustrated in the application has a few key parameters affecting the behaviour of that curve. Through an intuitive control panel on the applet, these parameters can be varied and the result will be reflected on the curve drawn. Thus it provides visualization and hopefully better understanding of the curves. |
