Description
Summary:For every seminar, there are bound to be talks by speakers. Location of sessions, date and time of sessions or even information of speakers are some basic information to be made known to participants of the seminar. In normal context, such information are broadcast to users using brochures or printed hand outs. Using printed hand-outs may not be an ideal solution. Some of such problems that may occur will be wastage of paper resource, waste time to search for specific information and even hassle to bring thick copies of hand out everywhere the participant go. With use of mobile applications, such problems can be solved. Additional functionalities can also be embedded in the application to bring convenience to participants with the use of mobile application. Some basic functionality is to allow bookmarking of papers, or even creating of alarms or reminders to sessions. Therefore a mobile application was developed to cater the needs and facilitate a Seminar. The mobile was developed using the android environment as Android devices holds a great share in the market. The application will be used targeting a real seminar named “ISSNIP 2014” that will occur in April 2014. The objective of this project is to reduce paper wastage and bring convenience to users using a mobile application with functionalities on what printed hand outs cannot do. Not only that, this project aims to create an application that is flexible enough so as to cater for other Seminars that may occur in future times to come. This mean that minimum changes can be done on the application and the application can be used for all different seminars. The best case scenario will be to just change the database information and that application can be deployed for use on other seminars. In this developed application, data used will be exactly the same as the data to be used in the Seminar “ISSNIP 2014”. The application was successfully developed testing are done with real data as provided by A*STAR. Data provided by A*STAR were given in excel format. Program was also written to automate process to extract data from the files and insert into the server database.
