The job scope of the author’s project includes creating a tool that generates a persuasive story based on the data obtained from sensors installed in the home of an elderly person living in an assisted living environment. This story is intended to be accessible through a simple and easy to use user interface and be used to promote communication between the elderly living alone and his/her family members. This project ultimately aims to assist the elderly people who are prone to suffering from the empty-nest syndrome due to losing touch with their family members. This task mainly requires research, system analysis and software development. During the project period, the author has been actively involved in analyzing, designing, developing and implementing this story generation tool by employing knowledge of C#, UML, Unity 3D, Text to Voice etc. After implementation, the data driven interactive storytelling project offers a great opportunity for bridging the communication gap between an elderly who lives unaccompanied in his/her house and her/his family. The system achieves real time collection of the elderly person’s environment data through various unobtrusive sensors located in the home. The story generation system can weave the information from the sensor data into a compelling story which has high persuasive and emotion arousing power to incite a response from the care-giver. This story is also available in various innovative formats.
