It had been adopted and integrated into many applications in the recent years. Applications includes Access Management, Logistics Tracking, Contactless Payment and Toll Collection. Different RFID Systems can have different operating frequencies (125 kHz, 13.56 MHz, 900 MHz, 2.4 GHz, etc.) and characteristics (passive/active), which would in turn affect their cost of implementation and field of application. This project focuses on two different aspects. Firstly, a study and characterization of different RFID implementations will be conducted. It consists of experiments, which would serve to bridge the experimental results to the theories behind the technology. Secondly, by utilizing low-cost components, a passive RFID Reader System with Anti-Collision capability was developed. The developed system was be able to interrogate up to 5 MIFARE tags (4 Card and 1 Coin Based Form Factor) within its vicinity instantaneously and can be implemented into applications such as Inventory Management with ease. As an additional component, the developed system will be improved upon by using additional components, to showcase its scalability.
