Summary:Living in this modern society, it is becoming a common sight to witness a mix of multiple elements in order to achieve the best attributes out of each one. One fine example is infotainment which incorporates the entertainment factor into information gathering. With the right ingredients in place, it ignites passion and curiosity for learning while contributing relish for the process. Improving from a related ongoing project for futuristic and anticipated mass production e-taxi electric vehicles (EV) from TUM Create in Singapore with in-vehicle infotainment (IVI), the objective of this project is to integrate the aforementioned ingredients through the form of IVI into an application of the ubiquitous Android system for eventual public use in the vehicles. Survey and research results revealed the public’s preferred choice of media content delivery to be video-based, underlining the significance of its illustration with supported claims. Adding on, Wi-Fi Direct communication protocol is labelled to be one of the fastest and most secure method for data transfers. Advancing from these references along with brainstorms of ideas, this project documents fully workable end-products of a partially customized video player with category folder organization and selectable video downloads, a unique incorporated taxi fare calculator as well as a real-time nearby places identifier. These functionalities are for the passenger’s device with Wi-Fi Direct as the main data transfer feature utilized. Future upgrades could possibly focus on other areas such as wireless controls for the purpose of comfort with the ultimate goal of enhancing commuters’ overall travelling experience.
