In this project, an incontinent notification system is developed in the context of elderly monitoring in old folks’ homes, nursing houses and hospitals. It implements Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) and Zig-bee technology to build the wireless liquid sensor detection of incontinence. The system consists of 4 parts: a diaper with build-in liquid sensor, a RFID tag and a RFID receiver and patient data management software. The diaper with the RFID tag connected will be worn by patient. When the patient is incontinent, the RFID tag will send the necessary message to the RFID receiver and the software will trigger an alert to call attention to this case. The reliability of the system is evaluated by a low-power RF network protocol (SimpliciTI) implemented on CC2530, which is an 8051-based wireless SoC with build-in 2.4Gz radio transceiver. Lastly, software with graphical user interface is developed for end user such as people who take care of the patients. It displays the signals from the RFID tags in a presentable way and provides notifications for incontinent events.
