| Summary: | Primary School Leaving Examination (PSLE) is the very first major examination that all Singaporeans have to take before officially moving on to the next level of education. Mathematics is an important subject as it serves as a foundation subject for further studies such as physics and engineering courses. It is also a subject that requires constant practices in order to fully understand the concept. As such, students will require a huge database of questions in the simplest and quickest way.
As technology advances, many schools are slowly stepping into the technological age by making use of online systems to provide the students with studying materials and exercises. Therefore, a system that is able to cater to these needs is highly in demand.
The project aims to develop a web-based application for PSLE mathematics with a large database of questions from past PSLE and various schools' examination papers. The system will provide user- friendly and easy to manage functions, as well as questions breakdown and solution steps will also be provided, including images if applicable. A second feature is the testing function, called Computerized Adaptive Testing (CAT). This function aims to allow students to gauge their performances for various topics to find out their weaker topics, by attempting a series of questions with different difficulty level. Questions will be chosen based on their current ability level. Results, with statistics, will be provided at the end of the test.
After finding out the weaker topics, students will be able to directly and efficiently focus on those topics. Concepts and related questions are also available in the system. As a preparation for CAT, students can make use of the topic based exercise function, where they are able to choose one or more topics and the number of questions to attempt. Therefore, this system will be able to better provide students with pre-PSLE preparation, in order for them to ace the subject. |
