| Summary: | ‘Emptiness’ is a term discussed in various areas of understanding (e.g science, religion etc). Its definition in the English language suggests absence and has a negative connotation, however this meaning is but one of its many ways of interpretation. Its true meaning is usually more uplifting.
For example, in Taoist philosophy, emptiness is described as the origin of function (e.g the empty space in a cup gives the cup its function – the ability to contain). This is one amongst many positive understanding of emptiness which suggests close implications to our lives. The topic of emptiness will be the focus of this research as it is often misunderstood despite its positive associations. The objective of this project is to highlight the positive associations of ‘emptiness’ to inspire viewers to see the word in a different light. Ultimately, it should lead viewers to see how the concept of Emptiness can be applied in their work and lives. |
