Description
Summary:Singapore is facing an ageing population. Our average life expectancy at birth has increased from 73.1 years for males and 77.6 years for females in 1990 to 79.3 and 84.1, respectively in 2010. There are some factors need to be considered with age, which are about eye-hand coordination and balance ability of elderly. In this project, a ball game system was developed that can make people especially for elderly to control the balance of ball on a tablet where we can measure their motor skill. The position of the ball and roll of the tablet are recorded and uploaded to a server. The Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 is used to implement an Android application on client side and the accelerometer sensor build-in the tablet used to build the application. On server side, the recorded data was processed to generate analysis results based on some algorithms and saved all relative information in database tables and text files. The Android application had one arrangement of game layout and the collections of game data sets were small so far. This affected the accuracy of test results and analyzing. In the later version, the Android application can be added more game layouts and more data sets will be collected continuously, especially about elderly people. The existing ball game system can be performing improvement by carrying out the refinements. So this project will aid in healthcare monitoring for elderly patients.
