In the early 1980s, while Singapore was enjoying economic success, her government was concerned about the large number of single female graduates. This phenomenon, known as the singles problem, has worsened during the last decade. In the late 1980s, an increasing trend of late marriage, which has been slightly more prominent among the graduates, was observed. The increasing number of Singaporeans marrying late has been known as the late marriages problem.
