To better inform consumers, this study aims to examine the effect of donning Phiten Japan’s AquaTitan bracelet on hastening recovery from fatigue in Asian population. It has been hypothesized that wearing AquaTitan bracelet for 24 hours will speed up recovery of quadriceps strength, endurance and soreness from exercise-induced fatigue. Nine recreationally active male volunteers (Values = mean (SD); Age = 23.89 (1.54) years, Height = 1.74 (0.05) m, Weight = 66.04 (5.56) kg) participated in this study held over four weeks in a single-blind, balanced, random crossover design. Each participants performed three experimental conditions — AquaTitan condition, Placebo condition and Control condition — with a five days washout period in between. For fatiguing exercise, participants performed 100 repetitions of isokinetic contraction at 60o/s. As parameters to determine recovery, isometric peak torque and time-to-exhaustion were measured with Isokinetic Dynamometer, while perceived muscle soreness was measured with Visual Analog Scale. Repeated measures ANOVA showed no significant difference for strength loss, endurance difference and muscle soreness level between EC, in both post-tests 1 and 2. This result is in contrast to studies done on other AquaTitan products, but concurs with studies completed on other brands of ionic bracelet. Dosage and distance of treatment were suggested to be the limitations of the study. In conclusion, donning AquaTitan bracelet does not augment recovery from exercise-induced fatigue.
