Good writing skills are essential in education system and in business companies. The evaluation of good writing skills is labor intensive and can entail a subjective bias. Automated Essay Scoring (AES) is a tool that is able to save time and provide more objective evaluations. There are some existing successful AES systems for essays in English that are used in large scale tests. Supervised machine learning algorithms are the core components that are needed to develop these kinds of systems. In this part of the report, we will discuss the existing AES systems and the problems and challenges encountered.
