Description
Summary:The rock support and reinforcement are an important area of analysis for underground rock cavern analysis for safe construction in a space constrained society today. The objective of this report is to evaluate the effects of rock bolt on rock cavern stability using the Discontinuous Deformation Analysis (DDA). As Singapore explore into underground development, many projects are now looking into more efficient and practical way of understanding the behaviours of rock to ensure safe construction process for the new building projects. In this report, the DDA program is used in the analysis to achieve the project objectives. The entire analysis will be based on simulating the actual underground rock cavern conditions, excavation process included, using fixed parameters such as friction angle (ϕ), Young’s Modulus of rock (E) and in-situ stresses as well as the variable parameters of the rock bolt, the rock bolt length and the E of the rock bolts, which the report will focus on. Displacement values and tensile force along the length of selected rock bolts of all the simulations will then be compared and discussed to identify the influencing parameters of rock bolt that affects the effectiveness of rock bolt on rock cavern stability.
