Description
Summary:Over the past three decades, Singapore has successfully controlled her pollution problems despite her sustained economic growth One of the main reasons behind her success is the choice of an appropriate effective environmental policy, predominantly a Direct Controls approach. While effectiveness of the policy has been hailed as the cornerstone of her success towards pollution control, other equally important criteria commonly used in evaluating every policy should not be overlooked. These include simplicity, efficiency, and equity considerations. Few studies have been conducted to date on such analysis. This study reviews and evaluates the environmental policy adopted by Singapore over the past three decades.
