Summary:Leg pronation have always been an important factor when it comes to choosing the correct pair of sports shoes. Many times people have overlooked the importance of the issue of pronation. In this report, we will discuss on the basic biomechanics of foot pronation, the different type of pronation and the effects of foot pronation. Next, the types of running styles will be discussed briefly and how pronation is factor affecting the different running styles. Next we will discuss about the myths and methods that are used commonly in sports shops for selecting sports shoes. In this sections, the reliability and doubts of these methods will be analysed. Many of these methods have been static test as they are normally a cheaper and easier way. For this project, test results and experiment results will be obtained based on three participants who are non-athletic background to ensure accuracy of results. The static test used in this project are the wet test and the pressure mat to check their foot type and based on theories found online to estimate the pronation type. After which, using photo analysis to find out a rough reference angle for each participants and dynamic test using video analysis and the motion analysis system to check on pronation. Results from the static test and the dynamic test will be crossed referenced with other to see if the static test are reliable in estimating foot pronation. Lastly, recommendations and ideas of improvement will be discussed in the last section.
