Description
Summary:The function of an active power factor correction device (APFC) is used to change the shape of the current wave form, which is drawn by a load for improving the power factor. The purpose is to make the load appear purely resistive which means apparent power equal to real power. When the power factor achieves unity, the reactive power consumption is zero and the current and voltage are in phase. This is the most effective way of delivering electrical power from the switch mode power supply to the load. This report aims to provide a detailed summary on the designing of active power factor correction device with FMC Technologies (FMC). Apply hysteresis current control method to control the switching tube of single phase boost circuit. It makes inductance current to be sine half-wave current and in-phase with output voltage of rectifier, and then improves power factor. Through this project, the author has learnt greatly about different ways of correct the power factor through the comprehensive and diverse learning conducted. During the final year project, the author gained valuable knowledge through active participation and inquisitive learning. In conclusion, this project had highly supplemented the author's insights in the power engineering world. It was undoubtedly a beneficial and educating experience for the author.
