Summary: | Few websites provide search on bonds based on financial information such as market capitalisation. Currently, there is no site that combines stocks and bonds criteria in filtering for corresponding bonds. In this project, a web bond screener is to be developed, involving garnering information from different sources, building a database, and presenting the search results in a meaningful way.
The scope of this project includes back-end data modeling and management, coding design, front-end web interface design as well as integration of the various components. The primary tool adopted is the open-source server stack WAMP, "Windows, Apache, MySQL, and PHP". It provides the four key components necessary for web development: Microsoft Windows – operating system (OS), Apache – web server, MySQL – database server, and PHP – application server.
Initial stage of the database design involves partial manual organising and importing of data, executing long strings of Structured Query Language (SQL) and displaying the output data values on a web interface based on user selected criteria. The main tools being utilised are Phpmyadmin, Eclipse Ganymede, Dreamweaver, Illustrator, and Photoshop. Once the static screening of the web application works, further efforts can be included in turning it into a dynamic website with real-time automated updates of data. Subsequently, reliable sources of data have to be determined, including but not limited to Google or Yahoo Finance or relevant financial information vendors. The last phase consists of migration of the entire site to an online host since in the first two phases the programme only runs on the local host, namely the computer with the WAMP server installed on it. |
