Description
Summary:There has been a very high interest in the transmission of an adaptively modulated Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) signal over Multimode Fiber (MMF) in optical access network recently. There were reported findings that emphasize on different variations of OFDM and the effects of different frequency response of the MMFs transmission performance. The MMF length, type, wavelength, launch type, etc can affect frequency response realization of the MMF. It is recognised that a specific MMF’s frequency response of an optical link does not seem to be constant for a long time. When a light source is greatly coherent in the MMF, the oscillations of the frequency response tend to be more distinctive. With sustaining chosen Bit Error Rate (BER) of the link, an OFDM can be adjusted to a specific frequency response and thus maximise possible throughput. A study was performed in this project to observe the frequency fluctuations on the MMF link with OFDM modulation formatted signal transmission. Simulations are carried out using MATLAB and OptiSystem in this project.
