Description
Summary:Wireless charging is a technique that transfers power from one energy source to another wirelessly by electromagnetic wave. It is only applicable by alternating current. A wireless transmission system consists of three parts which are power transmitting unit, power receiving unit and control unit. In recent years, as the implantable biomedical instruments have more and more proportion in the medical industry. Looking for a more convenient replacement for the traditional wiring charging technology becomes much more valuable and meaningful. Wireless charging is a practicable way to achieve this idea. This Final Year Project covers the study, design work, set-up and testing of a wireless power charging system for implantable biomedical instruments. The principle of the wireless charging system based on the mutual inductance between the transmitting and receiving coils inside the system. The magnetic flux generated by time-changing current flow in the transmitting coil cuts the receiving coil. Then an electromotive force is induced in the receiving coil, and gives the current flow in the receiving circuit. The battery of a biomedical instrument connecting to the receiving circuit will be charged, and electrical energy is transferred from power source wirelessly to the instrument. To design and build up an efficient wireless power transmission system is the primary objective of this project.
