Summary: | Wing In Ground Effect (WIG) Craft is a proven technology and is currently in the prototype stage. In order to bring the craft to production on a marketable basis, there are many different aspects which need to be modified from the prototype in terms of cost and service considerations. The project focuses on two important issues for commercializing the craft namely the optimum process to be used for manufacture of the craft body and redesigning the propulsion system. The feasibility of novel testing methods like Non Destructive Testing techniques and mechanical testing methods have been studied and its applicability to materials testing for the WIG craft investigated. An alternate design for the propulsion system including a higher powered engine and strengthened transmission has been investigated which makes use of commercially available engines and satisfies the weight and space requirements. |
