Description
Summary:With the booming economy and development of services and technologies, people tend to buy more than they need and many items have not reached their maximum usage before they are thrown away or spared. Meanwhile, the 3Rs, “Reduce, Reuse and Recycle”, are promoted among people to eliminate waste and protect the environment. However, how to motivate people to take actions becomes a problem. Furthermore, online shopping has gained its popularity in recent years. Many platforms are available online for people to buy new products and services. Inspired by both of these two facts, the author came up with the idea of creating an online platform for second-hand item exchange. With research on both current market and existing technologies, a mobile application based on Android system for second-hand item exchange was developed in this project. Both client-side application and server-side database and PHP codes were created. Based on the author’s research and analysis, functions of this application were designed considering three aspects: user- friendliness, security and user interaction. This report summarizes the research the author has carried out, the design of the application as well as the rationale of the design, and last but not least, the development of this application including techniques used, difficulties encountered and solutions undertaken.
