Description
Summary:The objective of this study is to reinstate Singapore’s temporal rainfall distribution patterns based on rainfall data tabulated from 1980 to 2010 with focus on occurrences of droughts. It was conducted by two students working in collaboration and one of whom is the author. In total, twenty three stations with each spanning thirty one years of daily records were analyzed in this study. In this report, the students used techniques such as cumulative running sum of days to find the maximum consecutive days without rainfall. Also, summation and averaging methods were used to calculate the amount of rainfall received. Last but not the least, comparisons were applied by grouping the stations into regions (North, East, South, West,Northwest and Central) in order to examine the spatial geographical rainfall distributions in Singapore and observe which regions suffer from longer duration of drought than others. Based on the tabulated data, the students established correlations between variables, which enable the author to identify and evaluate variations in trends of rainy periods and droughts.
