Reducing the amount of energy consumed to run products and services remains one of
the most important topics being addressed in the modern world as advanced products and
services tend to require more energy to perform sophisticated functions with higher level
of complexity. However, new technology advancement and discovery will not be
sustainable with the continuous exploitation of non-renewable energy that leads
concerning environmental problems. One way to reduce the consumption of energy
inside buildings or vehicles is to implement smart glasses that block infrared radiation
from penetrating.
In this report, student synthesizes different silver nanostructures that include wires and
particles, and subsequently coats them onto glass substrate using dip coating technique
and sol-gel as precursor. Substrates are coated with different concentration of AgNWs in
ethanol by weight percentage to study the effect on physical, optical and electrical
properties. Various characterizations methods are used on both silver nanostructures and
coated films to allow visual inspection and performance evaluation. All experiments and
results are detailed with figures and explanations. Last but not the least, student
summarizes the results of his findings and gives recommendation on potential
improvement. |
