Wind energy, as one of the clean and renewable energy resources, is a possible alternative to solve urgent problems such as fossil fuel depletion, energy demand growth, environmental pollution and so on. However, the intermittent and seasonal characteristics of wind make it difficult to utilize this natural gift efficiently.
This thesis discusses the fundamental theories of wind energy, permanent magnet synchronous generator (PMSG) and how PID controllers can be designed so that maximum power from the wind can be harnessed by this system and stable, efficient output electrical power can be generated. MATLAB R2012b is used to model wind turbine, PMSG and control scheme, and help evaluate the system performance by simulation. |
