Summary: | The project revolves around the study of slant path attenuation on satellite signals due to clouds. The slant propagation path between the satellite and ground station were analyzed using the attenuation detected in them due to clouds. Besides cloud coverage, other effects such as scintillations, rain attenuation, absorption loss and Low-Noise Block down converter (LNB) gain variations were also considered in the analysis. Beacon signals from WINDS and GE23 were analyzed and categorized into two distinct groups of possible events of Rain and Clouds, Clouds and Clear Sky events. Data from weather stations including solar radiation, rainfall rate, outdoor temperature and humidity were also used in the classification of the slant path attenuation. Solar radiation models were also created to better analyze the relationship between attenuation and its classification. MATLAB software was used to process and analyze data that were used in this project. |
