Summary: | Objects tracking and automated action analysis in videos has been widely researched
and applied in military and security surveillance. However, sports and other fields,
which are also in the need of automation technology, have not been well supported.
An example is American Football, where coaches have to spend countless hours
manually analyzing previous matches and practice videos of their opponents and
themselves, trying to figure out the pattern of the team’s play, also their strength and
weakness.
Researchers at Advanced Digital Science Center (ADSC) have proposed new
methods to automatically extract valuable information from an American Football
video. The information is an important key required in multi-level analysis such as
automatic statistic generation and strategy inference. However, the program used to
generate result is on a desktop station, which is very inconvenient for users –
American Football coaches and players. Therefore, a mobile-platform application that
could apply the newly invented technology appeared as a crucial need.
With the above motivation in mind, this project is aimed to develop a well-functioned
application with a user-friendly interaction. There are two main parts to this project.
The first is to design and maintain the database that store all results generated from
the desktop station. This part was done using MySQL as database language and
PHPMYADMIN to create local host. The second is to develop an IPAD application
that can retrieve the results and at the same time allow user to make any adjustment if
needed.
This report will hereby present a detailed description of the application features along
with the implementation to demonstrate its usability. Finally, some future suggestions
will be discuss to bring the product to the commercial stage. |
