Description
Summary:Microgrid is a new concept in power generation. They are modern and small-scale type of electrical systems whose primary goal is to diversify energy sources, and reduce carbon emission. Therefore, different type of distributed energy sources (DERs) systems like fuel cells, wind turbines, micro turbines and photovoltaic are brought in. In this project, a DG unit consisting of a fuel cell and an ultra-capacitor is modelled in MATLAB/Simulink. The goal is to boost and maintain the direct current (DC) voltage from the fuel cell at the DC link and convert into alternating current (AC) voltage before supplying to the load. The report includes the background information of the components in the literature review section. The design and implementation of a DC/DC boost converter, an ultracapacitor and a DC/AC inverter is also be included and different modes of operation of the DG unit is also furthered discussed.
