With the high demand of the consumption of oil and sub product of oil, the development of the exploitation of petroleum is fast and the exploitation has shifted from surface and subsea. There are many type of operations carried out offshore on the rig. In this project, the main scope is focused on the lifting operation.
The project studies the structural design and finite element analysis for offshore lifting potable units and containers. The lifting units consists of pad eyes, shackles and slings in a suitable assembly to make sure the lifting operation performed safety and smoothly. The aim is to test the strength of the design structure whether it could satisfy the requirements.
The pad eye design is performed based on certain offshore standards which is DNV2.7-3 in this project. The CAD model is created based on the calculation through theoretical method. The dimension is designed based on the information gathered such as the work load limitation and available material and working environment. The stress is calculated to check the success of the design.
When the theoretical approximation is made, the finite element analysis will be performed in use of the CAD file created. The FEA will analyze the total deformation and equivalent stress of the design to verify the theoretical method calculation by third party institution and certificate will be issued if the design fulfills the operation requirements.
The study was concluded with the best procedures to perform both theoretical calculation and finite element analysis and the factors which will affect the result of the design. |
