Description
Summary:Containerised trade has been expanding over the years. In order to bring down the per-unit cost of transporting the containers, many shipping lines have began to order container vessels with increased container carrying capacity. They did that is to take advantage of the economies of scale that mega-container vessels can bring. With the increasing trend on the size of the mega-container vessels, there is a need to look into the technical operational aspects of the vessel so that it can be operated more efficiently and economically. The optimisation of the hull and the kind of engines used that may affect the operational efficiency will also be discussed. In addition, other aspects of operating mega-container vessels have to be improved, resulting in savings of bunker consumption and reduction in emission. Information is obtained through the primary sources such as interviews and secondary sources to accomplish the objective of this report. Lastly, the report will end off with an outlook on the future of mega-container vessels and a proposed idea on how the vessel can be further improved.
